Ferberized.

We Ferberized Augie tonight. Only, he picked this night to not need Ferberization. The bedtime ritual has been dragged out to a hilariously epic abomination that lasts a minimum of 45 minute and a maximum of you-don't-want-to-know. It is then extended by multiple trips into Augie's room because he can't find his little blanket or some other such nonsense. The problem, of course, is that I let him get away wth a repetive, long-winded routine and then we're in his room within seconds of him crying to give him his blanket and tell him to go to sleep.

So we read the Ferber chapter on this and decided that bedtime is now just Pajamas, toothbrushing, reading, and "here are your blankets. good night." No more "tell me i'm not gonna cry about flies and bees," "tell me I'm not gonan cry about the man too big", and "tell me I'm not gonna be afraid of santa claus and christmas," no more "is it christmas yet", no more "go in mommy's and daddy's bed", and no more "What I am gonna think about when I close my eyes?" followed by a list of every movie he's ever seen (I'm not kidding. And I can't believe it took us this long to kybosh this.)

So we told him this was how it was gonna be, and after the new, shortened routine, he whined and asked to do "more things" as I said "nope, I'm closing the door now. Good night" and that was it. Whined through the door a few seconds and stopped. No need to set the 3 minute timer.

Day 1: success. Day 2, we'll see.
